Alden O. Jallo, 86, Fertile, MN, beloved husband and father, was called to his eternal resting place on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile.
Alden Ordean Jallo was born to Albert and Olga (Wiste) Jallo, on July 20, 1932, at Fordville, ND. He had a total of 13 brothers and sisters. He attended country school near their farm in Cleveland Township. After 8th grade he started working with his family and area farmers. Years later he achieved his GED. In 1949, Alden and his brother Harold moved to farm northwest of Fertile. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957, stationed in Texas in San Antonio, Waco, and Wichita Falls.
Alden was united in marriage to LaVonne Strem on October 10, 1954, at the Evanger Church in Fertile. After his honorable discharge he returned home to Fertile and started working as a mechanic at Polk County Motors and also in Ada at the Farmer Garage. In 1958 they moved back to the farm and he was employed with Fertile Grain Company. In 1964, he was hired by the Fertile Creamery to operate their mobile feed mill. In 1965, he returned to manage the Fertile Grain Company and continued until it was sold in 1976. Over the years, he also worked for Wagner's Coast to Coast Store, sold insurance for Garfield Mutual Insurance for many years, and operated his own dairy farm.
Alden was very active in many organizations over the years including, Varnes Lutheran Church and Cemetery, Fertile Jaycees, Crookston American Legion, Eagles Club, Liberty Township Board, and The Forty and Eight. He enjoyed old time music, dancing to Waltz's and Polka's, attending the Polk County Fair and Rollag Steam Threshers Reunion. He seemed to enjoy anything farm related and also snowmobiling when he was younger.
He retired in 1996, but still helped his son, Bruce on the farm for a number of years. He enjoyed keeping up with the chores, and spending time with the farm animals. In 2016, LaVonne's health required her to move to Fair Meadow Nursing Home and Alden would drive to see her every day. In 2017, he decided to move off the farm and join LaVonne at Fair Meadow Assisted Living and in February of 2018, he entered the nursing home.
