Agnes Thornberg, age 100, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Monday, March 23, 2009, in Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.

Agnes Gullingsrud was born on July 19, 1908, in Kraaka Township, near Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole T. and Stina (Ellingson) Gullingsrud. As an infant she moved with her family to Gary, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school near there. As a young woman, Agnes moved to the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area where she worked as a maid during the great depression. While working in the cities, she met Rudolph Thornberg. The couple was united in marriage in 1932 at her grandparent's home near Gary, Minnesota, and continued to live in Minneapolis. In 1958, Agnes and Rudolph moved to Escondido, California, where they opened a motel. Together they operated the motel until moving to San Diego, Califorina, upon their retirement. After Rudolph's death in 1980, Agnes continued to make her home in California for many years. In 1994, she moved to Twin Valley to be near family. At the age of 93, Agnes entered the Twin Valley Living Center.

Agnes was a lifetime member of St. Petri Church near Gary. She was a devoted wife who worked hand in hand with Rudolf over the years. Agnes was a talented seamstress and continued sewing and doing alterations well into her 90's. She has always been healthy and active, enjoying her daily walks uptown to get the mail. Agnes enjoyed her extended family and sharing stories with each of them.

Agnes is survived by two brothers, Selmer (Julia Mae) Gary, MN and Roy, Yountville, CA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, and two young sisters.

Funeral Services was held on Friday, March 27 at 10:30 AM in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
