Agnes Eleanor Halstensgaard, 100, of Fertile, MN, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile. She was born on December 16, 1913, to Simon and Ella (Erickson) Johnson at McIntosh, MN. The family moved to Winger, MN, where she graduated from eighth grade; her freshman year was attended at Mahnomen High School, Mahnomen, MN. Agnes was confirmed by Rev. Korshavn at Winger Lutheran Church, Winger. In 1928, the family moved to Fertile, where Agnes graduated from the Fertile High School in 1931. Agnes attended "Teachers Training" in 1932. She taught rural school for seven years before attending Moorhead State University, where she earned her teaching degree. Agnes taught in Climax, MN, Gary, MN and in rural schools.

On September 13, 1947, Agnes was united in marriage to Joe Halstensgaard at Detroit Lakes, MN. Agnes worked for Norman Bakken as a secretary for three businesses—Valley Industries Laundry, Fertile Laundry and Cleaners and the Top Notch Steak House. She also worked for Burslie Tax Services for four years. For many years, Agnes was Joe's bookkeeper for the family business, retiring in 1970. They lived in Fertile and joined Concordia Lutheran Church. Agnes entered the Fair Meadow Nursing Home on December 11, 2013.

Agnes was a long time member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, serving as CLCW Treasurer, Bible School Teacher, and Sunday School Teacher, and. Agnes also belonged to the Fair Meadow Guild, Community Study Club and served as a Girl Scout Leader.

Agnes is survived by her one daughter, Diane and her husband, Gary Spink, Columbus, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a still born son, Allan Dennis and infant daughter, Elenor, and one brother, Clarence Johnson.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at 11 AM in the Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church.

Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN, in the spring
