Agnes Fagre, age 101, of Richfield, MN (formerly Waubun, MN and Detroit Lakes, MN) passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 14, 2020.
Agnes Mary (Skrypek) Fagre was born in Swanville, MN, on April 24, 1919, the fourth child of Casimir and Katherine (Eischens) Skrypek. The family moved to Waubun when she was very young. She attended Adam's Country School and Waubun High School. In her teen years Aggie worked for various families in Waubun and Detroit Lakes keeping their homes immaculate and cooking wonderful meals. During this time, Aggie, met the love of her life, Orval Thor Fagre, at a dance. Aggie and Orval were married in Ogema, MN, on October 11, 1938. They were blessed with four daughters between 1940 and 1946.
Orval worked hard to provide for his family and Aggie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and home maker. She also worked hard helping Orval with the bookkeeping for his construction contracting, fur and wild rice businesses. In addition, her kitchen was always open to Orval's business associates any time of the day or night.
Aggie found joy in a variety of activities, gardening, especially her beautiful flowers. She won the Beautification Award from the City of Detroit Lakes. She liked fishing with Orval, card parties and entertaining of family, friends and neighbors. Aggie and Orval loved to dance. They were locally known for their great polka dancing. She loved shopping and going out for lunch. Aggie enjoyed traveling with Orval and later with her daughters, sightseeing, gambling, watching the MN Twins, visiting family and friends in at least eleven states and many areas of Minnesota. She was an active member of Lake Grove Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid, Sunday school, quilting group and more. She was a beautiful, fashionable, Christian lady and the best Mother in the world!
Aggie and Orval lived their values, role modeling for their daughters, the most important things in life: moral values, compassion, determination, confidence, faithfulness, responsibility, respect for and acceptance of others, love and most importantly, a strong faith in God.
