Adella L. Mikulecky, age 91, of Ulen, MN, died Friday, November 9, 2012 in Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.
Adella Louise Anderson was born September 29, 1921 in rural Hitterdal, MN, the daughter of Olai and Pernella (Selseth) Anderson. Growing up, she attended grade school in Lake Park, MN, and graduated from Hitterdal High School. Following high school, Adella furthered her education at a American Business College in Minneapolis, MN. She worked in Minneapolis as an accountant for a time before moving to Detroit, MI, to work during WWII.
On April 14, 1944, Adella was united in marriage to George Mikulecky. The couple made their home together on a farm in Walworth Township of Becker County. They developed a dairy herd which was one of the top herds in the county in the 1960's. George and Adella were named Becker County Master Farmers of the Red River Valley at the Crookston Winter Shows in 1964. They retired from farming in 1975 and enjoyed many years of traveling. In September of 2000, George passed away and Adella continued to live in their home until moving to Detroit Lakes where she resided for 10 years before entering Viking Manor in the spring of 2012 where she resided until the time of her death.
Over the years, Adella remained active helping George on the farm and also in extracurricular events for her boys and herself. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and its ladies aid in Ulen. She was also a 4-H Leader and Ulen PTA Member for many years. Adella was a great cook and seamstress and enjoyed gardening. Over the years Adella created many quilts for family and friends, several of which are still being treasured. She also wrote the column "The Old Homesteader" in the Ulen Union for many publications.
Adella is survived by two sons, Gary (Eileen) Mikulecky of Sebring, FL and Todd (Lois) Mikulecky of Hawley, MN; four grandchildren: Mike (Bobbie) Mikulecky, Angela Mikulecky, Terry (Debra) Mikulecky and Jane Mikulecky; two step-grandchildren, Pamela (Paul) Guiles and Russell Quammen; seven great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Robert Mikulecky of Ulen; and one sister-in-law, Edith Hendrickson of Crookston, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and a sister, Olga Moe.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Officiating was Pastor Boyd Longshore with Carol Lockhart serving as organist and Julie Brenden serving as vocalist. Pallbearers were Angela Mikulecky, Mike Mikulecky, Terry Mikulecky, Jane Mikulecky, Mark Moe and Kevin Hendrickson.
Burial was in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
